The Grandiest Trip of All Grand Trips

It's perfectly normal to jump into a rental car with 6 strangers and embark on a 4 hour road trip, right?

I've gone on road trips with friends before that haven't gone as well as our trip to the Grand Canyon went yesterday. Or been nearly as fun. Seriously.

A few of my favorite moments:

>> Becca, our fearless leader, assured us from the beginning that she was a good driver because they "made her take a class after her 3rd DUI." After that, she said that she was thankful for the rear-view camera so she "doesn't hit a kid like last time." (I giggled out loud as I typed that.)

>> Pulling into the Grand Canyon park, only to realize that the "best view" was STILL another TWENTY FIVE miles away. And then unanimously deciding "F it, we're here - let's do it!"

>> Finally, FINALLY seeing the darn thing after driving through foliage on foliage on foliage and then BAM, c-a-n-y-o-n. We all squealed because we're such girls. Becca exercised some quick maneuvering and pulled over immediately because we HAD to take a picture RIGHT there.

EEEEEEEEP!
>> It really was breathtakingly beautiful. We all just stood there and stared out into the abyss. And took 340972305384 selfies. Each. (See Exhibit A)
Exhibit A: Selfie

>> Kelly somehow got lost at the big tower thing. We wanted to take a group shot but she was MIA. No worries though, we got another before leaving with all of us.

Only half of us got the "thumbs up memo" - Silean was not amused.

>> "My butt hurts." - Terry

>> We got a present for Dana because she was sick and couldn't be there. Our Saturday fun continued to today - did yourrrrrsss?!?! ;-)

>> Steve's suggestion to get pie at Rock Springs Cafe was PERF. We were all getting a little cranky and needed pie. Because pie.

Fabulous day with fabulous people.

  4. We're certainly not strangers now. I know a little of your back story and that of everyone else who was in the Tahoe. (Kelly, I won't say anything to your parents.) I'm glad we had the weekend to unwind and let our hair fly in the wind of the Grand Canyon. Becca is an awesome driver for someone with three DUIs.

  6. Our journey to the Grand Canyon was wonderful. You are absolutely right when you referred to the view at the Grand Canyon as breathtaking. I actually lost control of my breathing as I gazed out over the canyon. The peacefulness captivated my heart. I'm so glad we were able to travel together.

  7. It was indeed a grand journey. I think Kelly mentioned that a friend of hers had called the view beautifully hypnotic. Our excursion, while lengthy, was just what we needed after a week of intense journalism training. The bonus for me was getting to know Becca, Katie, Kelly, Lisa, Silean and Terry better.
