Great session today with Tracy Collins about design. This is my favorite part of doing the yearbook, even though I am a perfectionist like our speaker. I can't stand when headlines are too fancy, too spaced out, or too big/small. Something new I learned about was the kern. I knew about leading and tracking, which I use all the time, but to be able to change one letter closer to another without changing all the letters is awesome news! I wish I knew that a long time ago. I'm hoping my yearbook program has a way to do this; nevertheless, I will find out a way to do it!
The critique took me back to architecture school, hearing professor Suzuki tell us we were "fail" when we didn't do something he liked. Tracy was gracious to not expose whose work was whose, but I can't decide if I should be glad or sad that I wasn't chosen for the good, bad, or ugly. No news is good news I suppose.

This was an interesting session. I had no idea typography was so complicated. I can see your connection to architecture because this session was all about designing the letters from the ground up. Don't worry about not having your work on display, I saw mine, and it wasn't pretty.
