At the institute today, I learned some valuable skills to use in Photo Shop. I had little to no experience, but with the help of some great people, I was able to get it all finished. The real test was actually putting that knowledge to use when I wrote the story on Chris Callahan. I learned to have some sympathy for my students when I expect them to use technology they have never used before.
Twitter on the other hand is something my students use constantly, and it was a new experience for me as well. I think I let myself fall away from technology because I didn't want to learn about it. I was nervous. However, it has been one of the most positive and enlightening experiences for me to have to dive in and use it. There are a few people writing stories about the technology used in reporting today. I look forward to reading those reports so that I might have a clearer understanding of what it is I need to know.
On another note, the people here have been very warm and welcoming despite my lack of education and experience in journalism. I appreciate all the kindness.

Kathryn, I too have scant experience with Photoshop, macs, twitter, or writing on a deadline like we did today. Good to know I'm not the only one. Shout-out to Steve Elliott (found me a new mouse) and Dave Tow who both helped me out during the Photoshop session. And I second your observation about the usefulness of seeing the classroom from a student's perspective -- can only make our teaching better.
