Alan's presentation on editorial and opinion writing was so insightful. I feel like that is an area of our school paper that needs improvement. The first step is to have young journalists report: compile and review what is in the news and talk to the opposition to see if they can change their opinion before going forward. Make sure students have their facts straight before writing. Specifics are ultimately important so that the staff can tell the opposition's side and why it is wrong! Finally, the ending should be a kicker or call to action.
I look forward to guiding my staffers this fall. I feel more equipped now and am excited about this section of the paper.
