Overwhelming and Daunting

I am still amazed at the concept of the ASNE Reynolds Journalism Institute.  They have taken 35 teachers and advisers from various parts of the country and brought them together to learn over the summer.  It takes a lot of hard work and dedication on the teacher's part to even be involved in a program like this.  It is a very intense, two-week training in Journalism Best Practices.  Everyone who applied, did so because they wanted to be here.  They wanted tools or techniques that they can take back to their respective schools and utilize with their students.  I heard a lot of people say that they were notified of their teaching assignments a week or two before school started.  Some even said they were trying to revive a program that previously existed or were trying to save one from becoming obsolete.  No matter what the circumstance, I am intrigued by the stories and conversations that are taking place with the people I'm getting to know.  Everyone has a perspective or a tidbit of information to offer; an idea that can be used in a different way that I never thought of.  So this is what it is like to have time to talk to your colleagues?? That doesn't happen very often in my school or my district.  So thank you all for sharing and being so willing to talk, listen, help, advise, etc.  That's what teachers do and as usual, a teacher's job is never done!!
