Another favorite day

Okay, this morning was another favorite day! Thank you, Tracy for all of the information regarding Newspaper Design Fundamentals.

I have always instinctively guided my students to build their pages from the inside out with all white space and copy appearing on the outside edges. It just seemed cleaner and actually easier.

Now I know that my instincts were right.

My designers and photographers sit next to one another in class, but don’t usually interact regarding the pages. However, the final pages of the yearbook were designed prior to the events occurring.

I used this opportunity to have the photographers and designers discuss the layout and what photos would work well in the spaces. They discussed at what angle the photographer needed to be positioned in order to have the subjects facing the correct direction for the layout.

Together, they made a list of photos needed, specifically noting where they would appear on the page. It was eye opening for both parties. The photographers commented that they loved having that specific direction, rather than shooting (pun intended) in the dark. It also made finalizing the pages a snap (oh, look another pun).
