Google Forms in Journalism Classes

The other day, I was able to share with you guys how I use Google forms in the classroom, and as I have hoped for a lot of Steve and Alan's stuff, I want to share it with you all here.

I hope you can bring it into your classrooms and make story ideas and reflection more successful:

This video is the most updated tutorial for using Google Forms. It is so easy! Don't be scared.

Before you make changes to either of these forms, please go to File > Make a Copy, that way it only changes it for your copy, and yours alone.

This is what you're responses will look like, after you have a student organize good ideas by color. We go through the ideas as a class, delete bad ones and color coordinate the good ones.

You can also get a little more complicated. This is a form I made to help my hockey team choose new jerseys with pictures, multiple choice and free response Qs.

  1. Bobby, this made muddy water a lot clearer. I had some questions about some of the information that you shared, but I was at a lost as to how to out it in into words that made sense. I really needed for this to be broken down into plainer words.
Thanks for taking the time to do this!

  2. Bobby, these are great resources. Thank you! My school just moved to google docs, and this will help us streamline some things for the newspaper.

  3. Bobby-

Thank you for the great reminder of the ways that we can use google docs with our students. This year my students used trello to organize their story ideas and we liked it, but there were some things (like the color coding) that we can do in google, but not in trello. If only we could blend the two...I think we will be heading back to google for this year!

  4. Bobby,
Thanks for the reminder about google docs. I got away from it, and now I have no idea why. I will use it next year.
