I always thought Pinterest was lame - Tracy Anderson

I always thought that Pinterest was lame.  But what was really lame was having cool design pages in stacks around my room with no organization to them.   So, I use Pinterest for newsmag design and topic ideas.

I have lots of different folders dealing with design and topics, and I share the username and password with my students (maybe not the greatest idea) so we can create a collective folder to inspire us.

I have students look at the designs and topics and talk about what works.  Alignment is a big one.  The other thing that students think is "so cool" that is really just annoying is cutouts with words wrapping around them.  Next time I am on Pinterest, I am going to make a folder "cutouts that work".  They can work, but they usually don't.  I am going to make folders for all of the things we talked about today: white space, alignment, images, etc.,

Pinterest can help us organize and create a shared "textbook" with our students.

    1. Please excuse these "removed by author" comments I was having some issues.

  3. What a perfect use for Pintrest. The students already know the technology, and a digital collection of media is way better than the stack of magazines and random newspaper pages that currently clutter my newsroom.

Another tool to consider would be http://www.thinglink.com/. This site lets you add images and tag them with comments and links right on the picture. Perfect for showcasing design elements or creating interactive images to embed on your site!

  4. Seriously? A collaborative textbook on Pinterest? I knew we were kindred spirits! I am stealing this idea (with lots of love)! Having the students collaborate on their learning process is something that good educators strive for. If they help design the curriculum, they will be more invested in it. Tracy, your students are lucky. What an amazing person you are. We had lots of good ideas during the last two weeks; I just hope I can remember them all. Thanks for the great stories and the great friendship! Best of luck with your program! I am sure our paths will cross again ;D
