Well, you would be surprised to know that I actually asked my principal to walk me down the aisle. Why you ask? Maybe because I've known him for my entire teaching career. He is one of the first teachers I met when I started at the school. He even offered to take me home when he found out I didn't have a car and would be taking public transportation on my first day of work.
I have taught in every wing, pod, block, section, and on every team in my current building over the years. Every time I moved, he was always on my team, in the vicinity or next door to me. He has watched me grow over the years and I have watched him move into the role of an assistant principal, which quickly became principal. Now in his second year as principal of our school, I have a really great relationship with him. It was very easy to answer the 21 things you should know about your boss. We talk, laugh, joke and spend time outside of the school as a staff all the time. He is very approachable.
When I mustered up the courage to ask him about walking me down the aisle, I was really nervous. His reply was that he would be honored to do so because he loves me like that. He is not much older than me, so he doesn't have the "father of the bride" look. He has four children of his own and is a great father. I respect his morals and values, plus he is an excellent role model for our students and his children. So I guess I don't have the typical boss, but I will be proud to have him next to me when I marry the love of my life. It really does have a sentimental meaning for me and I am honored that he is willing to oblige.

After being with you for almost two weeks, I am deeply touched by this post. You have a beautifull "spirit" about you, and I know that you deserve nothing but the best. On another note, having such a wonderful relationship with your principal like this is admirable. It appears that the two of you have been coworkers and friends for a while, which is a testament to the genuine nature of the personality of the two of you. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThis is such an incredible reflection! Wow! Please post a picture if you get one and can as an update.

ReplyDeleteKenya, you have such an enviable relationship with your boss. I wonder if you've ever had a professional disagreement after he moved into his authority position. How did or would you handle that?

How awesome is this! I, too, have a wonderful (female) boss, and though it's only been one year at MCHS, I can see that relationship continuing to blossom as my years there continue. I've already started having those tough conversations with my admins, so I hope I can take the skills I learned in Kristin Gilger's session to assist me in my growth. I've always looked to my admins as being additional parental figures to me, so I get why you picked your principal to walk you down the aisle. What an honor for him to have the opportunity to give you away!

Mr. Scott is the greatest principal any teacher can have and that is why I said I have a awesome relationship with him. I am so happy that I have the opportunity to work under great leadership. I can't wait until the wedding. It is such a privilege that I get to see him walk her down the aisle. Congratulation Kenya!! I hope you put him in your online publication story.
